In the monasteries of Myanmar
Our partner organization GoodVision Switzerland has been active in Myanmar with its own programme since 2018. As in all GoodVision program countries, education is an important part of our work in Myanmar. People are often informed about our eye camps via mobile loudspeaker vans.
The culture of Myanmar is characterized by thousands of Buddhist monasteries. Many boys are sent to a monastery by their parents from an early age. There they learn, meditate and play. And above all, they receive a warm meal there every day.
The monasteries are a good place for the GoodVision team to offer eye tests.
Our mobile autorefractometer from the Italian company Adaptica has been used. One advantage of the electronic device is that a large number of people can be tested in quick succession. If a visual defect is detected, the eye test is carried out using the conventional eye test bar.
During our work in Myanmar, we were able to provide over 20,000 people there with glasses.
All monks are allowed to take an eye test in turn.
