Our colleagues and partners are on the ground. They are witnessing firsthand what this situation means for the people, their communities, and their own families. Our work is also being affected: some roads are impassable, planned operations must be postponed, and much of what seemed taken for granted just a short time ago is suddenly uncertain. And most importantly:

The most important thing for us right now is the safety of our teams and partners. At the same time, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by these events.

That is why we are working with our partners to assess how the current situation is affecting our work and what the next responsible steps are. One thing remains unchanged: We stand with our colleagues and partners, now and in the days to come.  Our thoughts are with them, their families, and everyone affected by these events.

When the earth shook in Colombia, Natalia was at home with her two children. At first, she didn’t realize how severely the tremors had affected the country. It wasn’t until she was on her way to school that she realized the extent of the disaster.

At first, she was also unable to contact her team in Cali. Only gradually did messages start coming in. All her colleagues and their families were safe. This was a huge relief for Natalia. At the same time, she knows that many people in her community have lost their homes and that Colombia faces a long road to recovery.

Together with partners, GoodVision Colombia took immediate action. The team from Cali traveled to Pereira to provide free eye exams and glasses to those affected. Further support is already planned. In Cali, the team is also working on a partnership with a local clinic to make free eye surgeries possible in the future.

The floods in Nepal took the affected communities completely by surprise. While there was initially no immediate danger in Kathmandu, many people in the surrounding regions faced a difficult situation. Roads were impassable, teams were cut off from one another, and communication was difficult.

Prativa and her team therefore stayed in regular contact with one another to ensure that all colleagues and their families were safe. Partner organizations also had to adapt their work to the new conditions.

After the first few difficult days, it became clear to Prativa: Especially in a situation like this, support must not be interrupted. Together with her partners, she is exploring how the work can continue safely and responsibly—step by step and with special attention to the people who are now in need of help.

Good vision creates opportunities: It facilitates education and work, enables greater participation in society, and helps prevent accidents. In this way, it helps people shape their everyday lives on their own terms.
